Frame purse

Thanks for listening to me moan the other day  :-)  it was just one of those days!  Today I managed to get in five hours of mostly uninterrupted stitching in the kitchen, it was bliss!

Before my brain properly had time to process the facts, I signed myself up for the In The Frame Purse Swap over on flickr.  I'd never made a frame purse before :-o
After five hours, I can now say, that I have made my first frame purse, and I love it  :-)

I used the Fortune Cookie Clutch pattern from Lisa at U-Handbag, I bought the frame, glue and fleece from there too. Super speedy delivery  :-)  I got a little carried away with the lovely look of this purse and ordered the pattern without taking note of the curved seams I would have to sew. Oops. When I realised, I did think about using a different pattern but this shape is so pretty I wanted to give it a go. I'm glad I did.
I pinned the curved seams to within an inch of their lives and managed to sew them, very, very slowly, without any problems or drama. I found the hardest bit to be the glueing, I was all fingers and thumbs and felt like I needed another pair of hands, but I managed to get it without too much swearing   :-D

Fabrics used are various yellow prints from Central Park, Quilt Blocks and Pezzy Prints. FMF eyelet in green for the sides/base and a Valori Wells print for the lining.
The pattern was very clear and easy to follow, my only deviation was to use firm interfacing instead of medium, I really wanted this purse to hold it's shape. In future I would also substitute fusible fleece for the compressed fleece for ease of use.
Everyone in my family is getting cushions for their birthdays this year, and now they'll be getting frame purses for christmas  :-)

  2. I've just stumbled on your blog via flickr, I love that purse! I've been making bags for years and I know how hard it is at first, it's a totally different set of sewing skills to quilting. Very impressive!
