Block number two in the Skill Builder Sampler is the nine patch. This block was to showcase colour value and to continue on with accurate measuring, cutting and sewing. In the set of fabrics that I chose for this sampler, there are not enough lighter colours to really do this block the way it was intended, but not one to be put off I carried on and did it anyway :-)
On the measurement front this block went slightly awry, it is 1/8" too big from side to side and 1/8" too small top to bottom. I had to do a bit of easing to get all the seams/corners to match up but on the whole I am very happy with how this one turned out.
I couldn't resist taking a picture with the light behind it to get the stained glass look :-)
I have ordered some more, hopefully complementary , fabrics (it's hard to know if you are getting the colours right when you have to do things through a computer screen) to give me a bit more choice and hopefully a better range of colour values to work with. I'll share pics when they arrive :-)
Edited to add - I know I posted this last friday, but it is the only thing I've worked on this past week, so I'm linking this post to WIP wednesday :-)

You were very quick off the mark with todays block, well done, it's turned out well
I'm just using fabrics I have in my stash, so it's going to be quite scrappy by the end.
Wow Sadie. that's really fast. I thought I just saw that square released. You're going to be a master in quilting in no time.
And your square looks great.
Looks great Sadie! You make me want to learn to quilt too! Unfortunately I HATE sewing. Kinda hard to quilt without any sewing. LOL
What a wonderful job you're doing! I can't believe how quickly you're getting this done, and I love the purples. This will be a beautiful quilt!
Picking fabrics thinking of the overall tonality as well as color is hard, right!? I get it in theory, but...
I think you're doing great! Good job to keep going even if every little thing isn't "perfect". (Not enough tone variation? Make it anyway! Size a bit off? Ease it in! You've got a great attitude going and I love hearing about it. :)
It looks fantastic!! I love the fabric colos you chose :)
Your fabric choices are really pretty - I'm enjoying seeing this progress.
Lovely Sadie. You've got some beautiful colors already!!
The colours in the fabric are gorgeous. I look forward to seeing the finished article!
I would love to learn how to quilt. Once I get settled in our new home I may look around for some beginners classes.
Sadie, love you fabrics & your blocks. After quilting for many years, my thought is, if I like it, that's all that matters. You'll be sewing wallhangings and quilts in no time!
That looks fantastic the beauty of the 9 patch is the look changes depending on how you arragne your tones!
I know what you mean about ordering online to match fabric at home. I had several oranges at home for a quilt but loved the orange in Innocent Crush. Yeah, TOTALLY different color. It's more of a burnt orange. I still like your block!
I think your block is very pretty! I love the purples. Which fabric line is this?
I just love the colors you are using. This will be a gorgeous quilt.
They look great, Sadie! Love the colors.
The colors look great and so do the nine patches.
I think the block looks fantastic! I can definitely see the 9-patch pattern that was supposed to be created, which is the important thing! Thanks for linking up to WIP Wednesday. : )
