Crime scene cookie, anyone?

I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard.
Enjoy!

Dear Mr Branson

REF: Mumbai to Heathrow 7th December 2008

I love the Virgin brand, I really do which is why I continue to use it despite a series of unfortunate incidents over the last few years. This latest incident takes the biscuit.
Ironically, by the end of the flight I would have gladly paid over a thousand rupees for a single biscuit following the culinary journey of hell I was subjected to at the hands of your corporation.
Look at this Richard. Just look at it:

I imagine the same questions are racing through your brilliant mind as were racing through mine on that fateful day. What is this? Why have I been given it? What have I done to deserve this? And, which one is the starter, which one is the desert?
You don't get to a position like yours Richard with anything less than a generous sprinkling of observational power so I KNOW you will have spotted the tomato next to the two yellow shafts of sponge on the left. Yes, it's next to the sponge shaft without the green paste. That's got to be the clue hasn't it. No sane person would serve a desert with a tomato would they. Well answer me this Richard, what sort of animal would serve a desert with peas in:
I know it looks like a baaji but it's in custard Richard, custard. It must be the pudding. Well you'll be fascinated to hear that it wasn't custard. It was a sour gel with a clear oil on top. It's only redeeming feature was that it managed to be so alien to my palette that it took away the taste of the curry emanating from our miscellaneous central cuboid of beige matter. Perhaps the meal on the left might be the desert after all.
Anyway, this is all irrelevant at the moment. I was raised strictly but neatly by my parents and if they knew I had started desert before the main course, a sponge shaft would be the least of my worries. So lets peel back the tin-foil on the main dish and see what's on offer.
I'll try and explain how this felt. Imagine being a twelve year old boy Richard. Now imagine it's Christmas morning and you're sat their with your final present to open. It's a big one, and you know what it is. It's that Goodmans stereo you picked out the catalogue and wrote to Santa about.
Only you open the present and it's not in there. It's your hamster Richard. It's your hamster in the box and it's not breathing. That's how I felt when I peeled back the foil and saw this: Now I know what you're thinking. You're thinking it's more of that Baaji custard. I admit I thought the same too, but no. It's mustard Richard. MUSTARD. More mustard than any man could consume in a month. On the left we have a piece of broccoli and some peppers in a brown glue-like oil and on the right the chef had prepared some mashed potato. The potato masher had obviously broken and so it was decided the next best thing would be to pass the potatoes through the digestive tract of a bird.
Once it was regurgitated it was clearly then blended and mixed with a bit of mustard. Everybody likes a bit of mustard Richard.
By now I was actually starting to feel a little hypoglycaemic. I needed a sugar hit. Luckily there was a small cookie provided. It had caught my eye earlier due to it's baffling presentation:
It appears to be in an evidence bag from the scene of a crime. A CRIME AGAINST BLOODY COOKING. Either that or some sort of back-street underground cookie, purchased off a gun-toting maniac high on his own supply of yeast. You certainly wouldn't want to be caught carrying one of these through customs. Imagine biting into a piece of brass Richard. That would be softer on the teeth than the specimen above.
I was exhausted. All I wanted to do was relax but obviously I had to sit with that mess in front of me for half an hour. I swear the sponge shafts moved at one point.
Once cleared, I decided to relax with a bit of your world-famous onboard entertainment. I switched it on: I apologise for the quality of the photo, it's just it was incredibly hard to capture Boris Johnson's face through the flickering white lines running up and down the screen. Perhaps it would be better on another channel:
Is that Ray Liotta? A question I found myself asking over and over again throughout the gruelling half-hour I attempted to watch the film like this. After that I switched off. I'd had enough. I was the hungriest I'd been in my adult life and I had a splitting headache from squinting at a crackling screen.
My only option was to simply stare at the seat in front and wait for either food, or sleep. Neither came for an incredibly long time. But when it did it surpassed my wildest expectations:
Yes! It's another crime-scene cookie. Only this time you dunk it in the white stuff.
Richard.... What is that white stuff? It looked like it was going to be yoghurt. It finally dawned on me what it was after staring at it. It was a mixture between the Baaji custard and the Mustard sauce. It reminded me of my first week at university. I had overheard that you could make a drink by mixing vodka and refreshers. I lied to my new friends and told them I'd done it loads of times. When I attempted to make the drink in a big bowl it formed a cheese Richard, a cheese. That cheese looked a lot like your baaji-mustard.
So that was that Richard. I didn't eat a bloody thing. My only question is: How can you live like this? I can't imagine what dinner round your house is like, it must be like something out of a nature documentary.
As I said at the start I love your brand, I really do. It's just a shame such a simple thing could bring it crashing to it's knees and begging for sustenance.
Yours Sincererly...

LMAO

Time to Give

I have received a lot of exchanges recently. This is one of the things I sent out for my side of an exchange. Doesn't it look pretty!
Almost a shame to open it, but when my partner, Laurence, did open it, this is what she found inside.
'Good Things' by Lizzie*Kate, stitched on 28ct evenweave with DMC floss.
This is my first finish of 2009. WooHoo! Here's a little look at the side. I was lucky enough to have the ribbons to match the floss in my stash already. I have a bit of a 'thing' for ribbon!
I had the fabric I used for the backing already in my stash too! I used to work in a fabric shop, so have a little stash of bits and pieces of fabric squirelled away in a cupboard upstairs. I have a bit of a 'thing' about fabrics too! It's like Aladdins' cave in there!
I wanted to personalize this piece, but didn't want to stitch on the front. So, I stitched our names on the back, as well as the group name and the year.
Shame I had to give it away, but Laurence loves it so at least it is in a good, loving home.
Happy Friday!

I Love my Postman

Look what he brought in the mail. He's such a sweetie!
This beautiful fob and the scissors came from Carol for the HoE Lizzie*Kate Exchange, along with all the other goodies below. Isn't he cute! Thank you Carol.
The next parcel was from Penny I for an exchange on Stitch n Chat.
Sorry for the not great pic. I love everything Penny sent, especially the beautiful beaded fob and the DMC varigated floss. I love varigated floss!
Thank you Penny for everything!
My last parcel came from Sonda . Last year Sonda had a giveaway on her blog and I was one of 5 lucky winners. My prize was.......
.....this gorgeous beaded fob. Isn't it lovely. Thank you Sonda.
Well you might think that I would be in need of a little lie down after all that exertion, but no! I had a little helper to assist with the taxing job of opening all these envelopes.
Once he has mastered envelope opening we will move onto coffee making and ironing. Well! A girl can dream can't she!?!
Happy Thursday!

PIF Offer

A little while ago I was lucky enough to be the winner of a PIF that Evalina held on her blog. It is now my turn to offer the PIF, so here goes.

If you would like to receive something stitched by me within the next 365 days please comment on this post to say that you are interested. If there are more than three takers I will draw three names. Please remember that if your name is drawn, you then have to offer a PIF on your blog too. It is a lovely way to spread a little joy in our stitching world :-)
PIF (Pay It Forward)
I will leave this open for a week to see how it goes.

Hope you all have a great week,

2008 Round Up

Hi all, this was my last finish of 2008. It is a freebie by Prairie Schooler and was a really quick, easy and fun stitch.
I think it took me longer to stitch the personalisation on the back than it did the front. LOL
Is personalisation an actual word?
Anyway, this little ornie went all the way to the Netherlands to Verona.
Well, that brings my tally of finishes up to 15 for 2008. I'm really happy with everything I have done.
2008 was a whole year of firsts for me. I joined my first online stitching groups - and it's been down hill since then!!!!! LOL - I used evenweave for the first time (and fell in love with it). I tried 4 new finishes this year, biscornu, needlebook, ornie and flatfold. I have sent my first RAK and have taken part in my first exchanges. My stash has seen the benefit of some enabelling and my bank balance has seen the down side! LOL
I discovered the wonderful world of the stitching blog and I started my own.
By far the best thing about 2008 was all the friendships that I made. May they grow and blossom in 2009.
Thank you one and all,

Happy New Year

Hello everyone, I hope you all had a great Christmas and that Santa was good to you! Santa (DH) was very good to me, even though he did not stick to the £20 limit we had set! I got the most adorable i-pod nano in shocking pink! And the sneaky man had wrapped it in gift wrap, then bubble wrap, then a double bed sheet and then more gift wrap. Sure did keep me guessin' though! Santa DS got me a bar of Toblerone and Santa DD got me a box of my favourite flavoured coffee. Yum yum!

The Advent exchange I participated in is now finished :-( will be having withdrawal symptoms from no presents to open! LOL

Below is a picture of everything my wonderful partner Jennifer sent me, just a couple of things missing that are already in use! I am truly spoiled!

The pic below shows what was in the present I opened on Christmas day.

Wow! Not one, but two charts from my wishlist, 'When Witches Go Riding' by Prairie Schooler and 'All Things Christmas' by Lizzie*Kate. I also received a beautiful piece of 32ct lugana in 'Cabernet', so pretty AND a skein of WDW in 'Trick or Treat', AND a skein of DMC satin in the most vibrant shade of red. See what I mean about being spoiled! This exchange has been so much fun and I had the best partner who got my likes and loves down to a T! Thank you Jennifer, you're the best!

I entered the fabric naming contest Joan had at Sapphire Stitching, and I won two of them.

Both fabrics are from the Valentine collection. On the left is 'Love Bug' and on the right is 'Valentine Graffiti'. Joan sent me 2 pieces of each, one 14ct and one 18ct. The colours are wonderful, thank you Joan.

I see that many of us stitchy types are listing their stitching goals for 2009. I have decided not to do this, so instead here is my list of reasons for NOT having a list of stitching goals.

  1. After having a wall moved upstairs, I now have 2 rooms to completly redecorate, one for DS and one for DD.

  2. When I have decorated the above rooms I will then have to decorate our bedroom, which is currently DD's bedroom. DH doesn't think the pink walls and butterflies are good for his tough guy image! LOL!

  3. I have small children!

  4. I have a husband!

  5. My mum writes lists and I am not slowly turning into her! Really!

  6. This list doesn't count Mum!

  7. If I wrote a list I would lose it within a week anyway, and would waste valuable stitching time looking for it every 3 weeks thereafter, so I am saving myself time in the long run.

Well that's it for now, I wish you all a happy, healthy and prosperous 2009!
