I fixed the problem I had with the browns, I ripped out what I had already stitched and went with the CC Cocoa Bean. It is perfect :-)
Now for the AARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH part. The CC Deep Fennel the chart calls for is blue (as seen on the front page of the chart on the picture of the stitched model, bearing in mind that I bought this chart because I liked the stitched model!!!!!). The CC Deep Fennel that I have is GREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am really hacked off! Out of the 4 CC colours this chart calls for, only one is close to the model, two are lighter (one a little, one a lot) and one is a completly different colour! I understand that different dyelots will vary but surely going from blue to green stretches the boundaries of acceptable colour variance.
Edited to add - No suitable substitutes in my stash :-( I'll leave it until tomorrow when I am a little calmer to try to find something that will work. Not a happy bunny!

Oh believe me I feel your pain...I am currently stitching BBD's Bittersweet Moon, and the main color of the house (WDW Cadet) looks like a light blue in the the model, but is actually more of a seafoam green--at least the batch I am using is! I persevered and finished that color but I am really not too thrilled with it.
That stinks Sadie! I hope you have a substitute in your stash!!!
Oh no...sorry to hear that Sadie. Those overdyeds are wonderful but sometimes the batches are so drastic between each other. I hope you have a substitute in your stash! Good you changed to Cocoa Bean...maybe this is one of those projects that need a little more work to sort out colors but you'll be so happy with the end result!
Sadie, I am so sorry you are having these problems. I had a similar thing happen when I bought Carrie's Creations thread pack for one of my Ink Circles designs. Have you tried contacting the designer or Crescent Colours about the problem?
Blergh. Doesn't that stink?! I'd offer up a skein from my stash but I don't have Deep Fennel. (cool sounding name, though!) Could you use a skein of DMC? I know it then becomes not what attracted you to the design in the first place... Like I said, blergh.
Oh rats! Don't you just hate that! I don't know what color would be suitable to get that blue you were wanting.I was looking at the pattern online and it looks sort of a steel-blue doen't it? What about CC Old Blue Jeans or Blue Moon? Do you have either of those? They might be suitable. I don't blame you for not wanting to use the Deep Fennel. Those overdyes can make you both happy and mad! I know what Marjorie means about the WDW cadet.I've seen it in both green and blue tones.Drives one crazy!
I also thought about Old Blue Paint from Gentle Arts Sampler Threads. If you happen to have that you might see if you like that. Another thing I've done is take some DMC and spray it with a little bleach. I don't really like doing that because it can weaken the floss, but sometimes if it's rinsed quick it's not too bad. Not my favorite method ,but has worked in a pinch.
Ouch - yes, I love overdyeds, but sometimes they don't even compare with each other. Good luck!
Oh no,Hope you can sort something out.
Mama said there'd be days like this! Still aggrevating. You've gotten a lot of good suggestions, but I'll add this, could you 'blend' the CC with a piece of DMC to achieve the look you're aiming for? Just a thought. Good luck!
I know about this problem. I was doing a sampler and bought four of one of the overdyed colors. Guess what, I needed 5. I even had friends buying them in different states to see how close I could get!! I feel your pain - Terry
I had a similar problem with some GAST Brandy which I needed to be "orange". Good thing I wound up using it in another chart where it didn't matter so much...
But, back to you. Sorry that I don't own any blue Deep Fennel--I'd send it your way in a "skinny minute" :P
So sorry for your disappointment, I have been there too many times. The model almost always shows a different shade to the real thread, even fabric.
My Sunflower House model showed a light blue, but the called for fabby in the same thing is much much darker is real life.
I do hope you can sort it out.
Oh Sadie you don't know how much I feel your pain. As you know I had to switch from one chart, the Santa because I was missing some floss. To The Hair Raising Halloween, wellllllllll I was stitching away on the sky and I kept thinking this just does not look right, went back to look again and I thought yes this is right. Well come to find out there are 2 symbols that almost look the same. Well Sunday I sat and ripped out from 10pm till 2am!!! Then I couldn't go to sleep. The worst is that I don't have the floss I need for the sky!!! so I thought well until I get it I will work on the Santa since I did get the floss for it. Never guess what I did..........I forgot to order one of the skeins.......Well I am going to go and start "Forrest Snowfall" by County Cottage Needle works at least I know I have everything for it!! Well lets hope I do. Have you thought about just choosing a blue that you like?
Oh Sadie, I feel your pain. Pictures can be SO different then the real thing. I most often have that. And hand dyed floss can turn out different as well, which is also annoying. And it is most frustrating to purchase the right colors only to find out they are not what you want.
If I was you I would go and find the colors of your choice.
I have to do the same for a sampler from Brenda Keys where I fell in love with a picture and when I pulled the colors it's calling for I started to pull my hair. Not what I want!!!
Sadie, so sorry to hear your dilema, been there and done that myself a time or two! Hope you find a suitable alternative...wish I had it so I could send it your way! Good luck...
HAPPY STITCHIN'
Terri
Oh no!!! That is just not cool!! Hope you find a solution!!
I've got one cross stitch project tucked away because I noticed a mistake that couldn't easily be corrected and was going to require ripping out about 2 hours of work....so it's in a ziplock in my craft cupboard. Maybe I'll take it out next year...when I have time ;)
Glad to see you've probably found a suitable substitute.
